Notes on Baggage
We recommend one piece of baggage per person. We also remind you that the following items are strictly prohibited: arms and munitions, explosives, fireworks and flares, compressed or liquefied gas (flammable, non-flammable, refrigerants, irritants and toxic gases) such as camping gas, flare launchers, starter pistols, infectious or toxic substances, corrosive substances, radioactive substances and any sharp objects that could be used as weapons.
Adhesive Tag -
The coloured Costa Cruises tag supplied with your travel documents, stating your name and cabin number must be attached to the handle of your baggage before you arrive at the port of embarkation. Before attaching the tag make sure you have removed the backing. Your baggage will be left at the baggage drop when you arrive at the port and then delivered directly to your cabin.
Hand Baggage - Medicines and spectacles MUST be carried in your hand baggage. We also recommend that valuables, photographic equipment and fragile items should be carried in your hand baggage.
Baggage Insurance - Your baggage should be covered by travel insurance to the value of your personal effects. In the event of delay, loss or damage you will need to make a claim against your travel insurance. Costa Cruises’ responsibility for baggage is limited by International Conventions. See booking conditions.
Notes on Travel Documents
You will receive a travel pack containing the following documents:
• Cruise ticket
• Boarding form
• Baggage tags
• Flight tickets (where applicable)
• Vouchers for ground services (where applicable) In the travel pack you will also find personalised information on your cruise and related services such as how to get to the embarkation port, car parking and garage services and the ship’s telephone numbers. There will also be details on the onboard services you can book prior to departure, and a full list of the excursions with descriptions and prices.
You will be sent your travel documents about three weeks before departure as long as your final payment has been made. If payment is not made within the deadlines stated in the contract between you and Costa, or if the booking is made within two weeks of departure,Costa Cruises will send you or the travel agency a booking summary by fax or e-mail, in place of the travel documents.
Notes on Your Passport and Visa
• Passports - You must be in possession of a valid passport and any visas (if required). Each child (including infants) must be in possession of its own passport. For entry into USA your passport must be MACHINE READABLE (see USA paragraph). It is also important that name changes for newlywed wives must be notified to us immediately so that the name stated on the passport matches the name on the ticket. The names on cruise and eventual airline documents must be the same as those shown on passports. Any discrepancies (including nicknames and abbreviated names) may prevent travel and also make insurance policies invalid. If any guest does not possess the required documentation they will be denied boarding their cruise and cancellation penalties will be applied. Please note - Passports may be retained by Costa staff on embarkation and withheld for the entire duration of the cruise so they can be presented to the various port authorities. Passports are then made available only when guests require them to go ashore.
• Visas - It is strongly recommended to contact your local Consular Authority in order to ascertain visa requirements. If any guest does not possess the required documentation they will be denied boarding their cruise and cancellation penalties will be applied. We recommend that you check your visa requirements with your travel agent or the appropriate embassy at least two months prior to travel.
USA - To avoid any inconveniences at departure, please check the expiry date of your passport and that it is compliant with the new entry procedure for the United States. If you require assistance please contact your travel agency. Applicable to all Visa Waiver Program Countries (Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K.)
You must be in possession of a MACHINE READABLE PASSPORT. Each child must have their own machine readable passport: registration in the parents' passport will not be considered valid. According to the rules provided by the “US Department of Homeland Security", which refer to the regulations of the Visa Waiver Program, Costa Cruises reminds you that
1) Visitors who have a machine readable passport, which was issued or renewed before 26 October 2005,may enter the United States of America without a visa.
2) Visitors who have a machine readable passport, which was issued or renewed on or after 26 October 2005 and which has a digital photograph printed directly on the passport, may enter the United States of America without a visa.
3) Visitors who have a machine readable passport, which was issued or renewed on or after 26 October 2006,require integrated chip with information from the data page (e-passport). Visitors whose passports do not meet these requirements will be required to obtain a visa to travel to the United States.
All guests who are in possession of a valid passport that was issued prior to the introduction of the machine-readable passports, or passports that do no meet the above requirements, or not part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP),require a non-immigrant entry visa for the United States. This requirement is also applicable to children. In any case, all guests who are already in possession of a passport are requested to check their documentation with their travel agent or national authorities.
Libya - on arrival in Libya the local authorities will stamp your Passport. Please note that your Passport should not have any Israeli stamps or visas (even if expired).Costa Cruises will arrange for the group visa required to disembark in Libya by sending the relevant authorities all Passport information at least two weeks prior to departure. For those who decide to go on our excursions, the cost of the visa is included in the excursion price. For all other guests, the cost of the visa will be added to your cabin account. For those who plan to go ashore independently, the group visa will allow you to visit the city of Tripoli only.
Asia - for all cruises to and from Asia it is required passport valid for at least six months after the date of your return home.
For India a Tourist Visa Multiple Entry is required: this visa is not obtainable on board, so our Guests must get it in advance before departure, contacting the Indian Consular Authority.
For China a multiple (valid for at least 2 entries) turist Visa is required : this Visa is not obtainable on board, so our Guests must get it in advance before departure, contacting the China Consular authority. For cruises calling at Sanya, visa is not required for nationals of Brunei, Japan and Singapore, and for guests participating to Costa Shore Excursions citizens. Independent guests not participating to Costa Shore Excursions and who want to go ashore independently do need a transit visa, whose amount changes according to the different nationalities. Visa must be requested to the onboard personnel 24 hours prior arrival at Sanya and the total amount will be charged to guests’ onboard account.
Important notice: passengers belonging to Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, cannot apply for individual transit visa and will be able to go ashore only through Costa Shore Excursions. You will be charged onboard for the relevant cost.
For cruise calling Singapore infant photo is required if included in parent's passport.
For Vietnam a Transit Visa is required: Costa will take care of the necessary formalities to obtain it upon arrival in the country. You will be charged onboard for the relevant cost. However, should this situation alter, Guests will be advised at the earliest possible opportunity.

Dubai and the Emirates - for cruises to and from Dubai and the Emirates it is required passport valid for at least three months after the date of your return home. However, should this situation alter, Guests will be advised at the earliest possible opportunity.
Mauritius and Indian Ocean - for all cruises to and from Mauritius and Indian Ocean guests require a passport valid for at least six months beyond period of intended stay. For Kenya and Madagascar a Transit Visa is requested: Costa will take care of the necessary formalities to obtain it upon arrival in the country. You will be charged onboard for the relevant cost. However, should this situation alter, guests will be advised at the earliest possible opportunity.
How to Pay on Board?
Payment on board and Costa Card
In your cabin onboard you will find your personal Costa Card which verifies your identity throughout the cruise. For your convenience, all Costa ships feature a cashless system onboard, and using your Costa Card you can charge everything to your onboard account, including gift shop purchases, wine and bar bills, spa and beauty shop services, dry cleaning and laundry, telephone calls, shore excursions and Casino (for an additional fee). At the end of your cruise, you’ll receive a statement showing all your shipboard charges, including the Service Charge for hotel and beverage services. You may settle your account with cash (Sterling, Euros or US dollars), travellers cheques or credit card (see below).
Credit cards
We have introduced a credit card service, which you may sign up to at the beginning of your cruise, which automatically charges purchases to your credit card. With this service you will receive your bill in your cabin and, unless you state otherwise, will automatically be charged to your credit card. The following credit cards are accepted on board: American Express, VISA and MasterCard. We recommend that you advise your credit card provider that you are going on holiday before you depart. Please note - Debit cards like Maestro and Switch and electronic cards like Visa Delta and Visa Electron are not accepted onboard.
Personal cheques
We are not able to accept payment by personal cheque onboard.
Currency & foreign exchange
The legal currency on board is Euro except in the following cases where the legal currency onboard is US Dollar:
– Costa Fortuna and Costa Mediterranea cruises in the Caribbean
– Costa Magica,Costa Victoria and Costa Classica cruises in South America
– Costa Victoria and Costa Classica Spring 2008 Transatlantic cruises
– Costa Allegra 4 and 5 night cruises in Asia
The foreign exchange facility on board is limited and is normally closed while the ship is in port so we recommend that you carry enough local currency for each port of call visited or carry small denomination Travellers Cheques to cash while ashore. There are no automatic cash machines onboard. We regret that we do not provide credit card cash advances and we cannot cash personal cheques. Travellers Cheques can be cashed at the Information/Customer Service Desk.
