Presidential Blue House

Cheong Wa Dae, known to Westerners as the Presidential Blue House, is the main office and residence of the President of South Korea. Basically, the name "Blue House" originates from the 150,000 blue tiles of the main building's roof -- also the primary symbol of Cheong Wa Dae. These tiles are strong enough to withstand weather conditions for hundreds of years as each were baked individually. Cheong Wa Dae's blue tiles and smooth roof represent the beauty of Korea . The Blue House also has a perfect natural backdrop with Mt. Bugaksan behind it.

One can notice that buildings inside the Blue House compound have unique and special shapes, built in the Korean traditional style. Aside from the Main Office, there is also the Guest House (Yeongbingwan), Spring and Autumn Pavilion (Chunchugwan), and the Seven Palaces. The lavish Guest House, supported by 18 pillars, holds official events and large conferences for foreign guests and international delegates. On the other hand, the earthen-themed Spring and Autumn Pavilion is designated for the president's press conferences.
