INJE

When Soyang Lake with the area of 99,174m2 gets frozen in winter, many festivals and local entertainment events are held, where visitors and families can also catch Icefish and attend the games.

The unique Icefish Festival held by Inje County residents on Soyang Lake provides an opportunity to experience mountainvillage culture, enjoying fresh-caught smelt and snow-covered scenery of the inner Mt.Seorak region. Soyang Lake in Nam-myeon, Inje-county, the nation's largest freshwater lake, is formed from the clean water flowing from Mt. Seorak and Naerincheon Stream.

This is also a popular place for angling with a run of Icefish (smelts) occurring during the breeding season. Also know as the silver fish or sweet fish, smelt are silver-colored clear fish that lay eggs only in clean water at temperatures between 6°C ~ 10°C.
